Langtang Treks (16 days)

Introduction

Travel Duration: 16 days
Trip Grade: Moderate

Detail Itinerary

Famous for the Red Pandas and Yak cheese, Langtang valley presents an intriguing image of Yaks grazing around the backdrop of the snow-clad mountains.

Inhabited by a people group called Tamangs, the pristine beauty of the region remains untouched from modernity and its flaws. With enchanting forests, narrow gorges and wild flowers decorating the mountains, snow clad peaks and holy monasteries add more flavor to place the valley on a higher pedestal.

With the high mountains acting as your bodyguard, the trek can be well completed in ten days or so. Starting from Dhunche, which takes about a day to reach from Kathmandu, the trail meanders by the side of the Langtang river before reaching the village and further to its surroundings.

The trek up the Langtang Valley is another of the great short treks that can be done easily in ten days or so. Starting from Dhunche, which takes about a day to reach from Kathmandu, the trail meanders by the side of the Langtang river before reaching the village of Langtang and Kyanjin, further up. Here again, one is surrounded on all sides by mountains.

Another popular destination, Helambu, can be reached from here for those who prefer not to head straight back to Kathmandu. This can be done either by going over the Ganja Pass, accessible from Langtang itself or by backtracking for a couple of days to pass through Gosainkund, a major pilgrimage site.
